Some key items to note about Viruses -
-
A true virus can only spread from one computer to another (in some form of executable code) when its host is taken to the target computer; for instance because a user sent it over a network or the Internet, or carried it on a removable medium such as a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB drive. Viruses can increase their chances of spreading to other computers by infecting files on a network file system or a file system that is accessed by another computer.
-
Viruses are sometimes confused with computer worms and Trojan horses, which are different and can spread to other computers without needing to be transferred as part of a host.
-
Worms and Trojans, like viruses, may cause harm to either a computer system's hosted data, functional performance, or networking throughput, when they are executed. Some viruses and other malware have symptoms noticeable to the computer user, but most do not. This makes it hard for the average user to notice, find and disable and is why specialist anti-virus programs and techniques are now commonplace.
-
The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware, adware and spyware programs that do not have the reproductive ability that a virus does.
Detection Methods -
-
A quality virus protection program with an up to date virus pattern is usually the first line of defense to detect if a PC is infected by a virus or other type of infection. We recommend any of the products from Trend Micro. Follow the link below to perform a FREE Online Scan of your PC.

Recovery Process (What we can do)-
Once a computer has been compromised by a virus, it is usually unsafe to continue using the same computer without completely reinstalling the operating system, however, there are a number of recovery options that exist. These actions depend on the severity and the type of virus.
What we suggest if your PC is infected:
-
Contact Design Solutions - You can reach us to determine the best overall plan for your exact circumstances.
-
Virus Removal - Determine the type of infection so that a possible removal process can be applied. This usually involves running the Microsoft OS based PC in safe mode to disable much of the Windows functionality.
-
Operating System Re-Installation -If a removal process is unsuccessful or the PC still exhibits some "unusual behavior" the best approach to be certain of removal is to:
-
Copy any required data files off of the PC (Documents, spreadsheets, emails, etc.).
-
Reload the entire Operating System.
-
Apply the most recent updates.
-
Re-Install any necessary programs (including a preferred anti virus program).
